OK, where are my New York readers? I'm jealous that there are so many great events going on in NYC during Earth Week. I hope some of you are able to make it to these events.
Join the Global Giving Circle for Grow, Groove and Give 2009, a 2-day opportunity to build a better and greener environment and support NYC youth during Earth Week New York. This takes place on April 18 and 19. There will be a free public tree planting opportunity with MillionTreesNYC on Saturday, April 18 and a fundraising dance party at Cielo on Sunday, April 19th. The dance party will benefit two NYC green collar job training programs for youth. While your in the city, you can also visit the Go Green Expo at the Hilton on April 17 through 19.
On Saturday, April 18th from 9am to 3pm, the GGC will join MillionTreesNYC to plant trees at Pomonok Playground in Queens, NY. The MillionTreesNYC project is an initiative of the New York Restoration Project (NYRP), a non-profit organization that was founded by Bette Midler. The organization’s goal is to plant one million new trees by 2017. To sign up for the free tree planting and get directions to Pomonok Playground, visit http://jetblue.com/green/trees.asp.
The following day, Sunday, April 19th, the GGC will host an Earth Day Dance Party to benefit two growing teen environmental education and job training programs: "Girls Gone Green," a project of the Lower Eastside Girls Club and the New York Restoration Project’s pilot program "Green Teens." The dance party will be held at Cielo, the well-known meat packing district club that was voted "Best Club" in this past year’s Clubworld Awards. Not only will there be a full bar, but also green non-alcoholic beverages. Advanced tickets for the Earth Day Dance Party Benefit begin at $15 and can be bought on the only fair-trade ticket company site: Brown Paper Ticket.
