On Saturday, April 18th from 9am to 3pm, the GGC will join MillionTreesNYC to plant trees at Pomonok Playground in Queens, NY. The MillionTreesNYC project is an initiative of the New York Restoration Project (NYRP), a non-profit organization that was founded by Bette Midler. The organization’s goal is to plant one million new trees by 2017. To sign up for the free tree planting and get directions to Pomonok Playground, visit http://jetblue.com/green/trees.asp.
The following day, Sunday, April 19th, the GGC will host an Earth Day Dance Party to benefit two growing teen environmental education and job training programs: "Girls Gone Green," a project of the Lower Eastside Girls Club and the New York Restoration Project’s pilot program "Green Teens." The dance party will be held at Cielo, the well-known meat packing district club that was voted "Best Club" in this past year’s Clubworld Awards. Not only will there be a full bar, but also green non-alcoholic beverages. Advanced tickets for the Earth Day Dance Party Benefit begin at $15 and can be bought on the only fair-trade ticket company site: Brown Paper Ticket.
