So anyway, my six year old picks up something and says "Look mommy, trash. Can I put it in the garbage?"
"Yes please. Thank you."
I would say this happened about 6 times over the course of the 2.5 hours we were there. I think he enjoyed running back and forth to the garbage can.
"I found more trash!"
So I had a proud mommy moment standing there in the water with my boys because it was clear that my son knows that garbage belongs in the garbage can and not on the ground. And he even took initiative to pick up someone else's garbage, which is something most people will not do. At least I know that my kids won't be the one's out there littering.
And now I know I am doing at least one thing right with this parenting gig.
Have your kids ever done something that made you proud and think "wow, maybe I do know what I am doing!"
I have always taught my kids that handicapped people are just like us, they have feelings and like to talked to like you would anyone else. When my son was in 3rd grade I heard about this little girl for months. One day when we were picking up some meds he screamed that he saw her coming out of physical therapy. I was so proud to find out that the little girl I had heard so much about had spina bifida and cerebal palsy. She was his best friend and girl friend.. I was so proud. When I told him how proud I was of him for treating her like anyone else even though she was different he said mom she won't wear glasses forever... Yeah I beamed.. and cried
ReplyDelete@singedwingangel - That is such a beautiful and heart warming story! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYep, every once in awhile I get the validation...even recently from my 23-yr. old when I overheard him giving my 18-yr. old advice. :)
ReplyDeleteLove those moments. Hi-Five to you for yours!
I would be proud too.
