It's hard to remember what television life was like before we had Netflix. Being able to watch what we want, when we want it has become pretty invaluable to us, especially since it has been 9 years since we had cable in our home. But really, with streaming Netflix, who needs cable? We sure don't. Don't believe me? Here are just a few reasons why we love Netflix plus a chance for you to win your own 6-month subscription.
We are merely DAYS away from the opening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and everyone here in my home cannot wait! As you countdown the days, you can keep your kids busy by downloading the free Star Wars: The Force Awakens Activity Pack which includes coloring pages, mazes, a memory game and more!

At some point during parenthood, we all have come face to face with a bedtime staller. If you haven't yet, trust me, you will. Now my kids don't usually flat out ask for an extra five minutes, they just really, REALLY procrastinate the bedtime routine. This one has to use the bathroom one more time. The other one has to say goodnight to the dog. Yet another one forgot to put on his slipper socks. Then the youngest one suddenly just NEEDS to wash his hands. Again. The majority of the time, you'll find me in the upstairs hallway during this mayhem repeatedly saying "hurry up and get in bed." But now Netflix has given me a really great idea that already has worked so much better. Now I can tell them that if they get everything done quickly and get in bed, they can watch an entire show on Netflix.
Now wait a minute, I don't want me kid to watch a 30 minute show right before bed! Well neither do I and that is why I love that Netflix and Dreamworks put together these 5-minute episodes of their hit show Dinotrux.
Dinotrux ‘5 Minute Favorites’
Tucking them in is magic, it’s just getting there that’s the hard part. So make bedtime a little easier with three new Dinotrux 5 Minute Favorites from Netflix.
What type of bedtime staller is your child?
Netflix put together a list of various types of stallers and I find it quite humoruos that each one of my kids fits into a different category. The six year old is always Soooo Thirsty, one of the twins (8) is Slow as Snails while the other is Master Negotiator and the ten year old is The Flatterer.
The Netflix original series Marvel’s Jessica Jones is the second of four epic live-action adventure series (Marvel’s Daredevil, which is now streaming, Marvel’s Luke Cage and Marvel’s Iron Fist, all leading up to the teaming of the main characters in Marvel’s The Defenders) to premiere only on Netflix. It is a suspenseful, edgy look into the life of Jessica Jones, one of the most popular new Marvel characters of the last decade, as she faces demons from within and without. The drama will premiere with thirteen (13) one-hour episodes.
About Marvel's Jessica Jones:
After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases in New York City.
Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) is joined by an amazing cast including David Tennant (Kilgrave), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker), Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty, and Wil Traval, among others.
Marvel’s Jessica Jones on Netflix is Executive Produced by series Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg (“Twilight”, “Dexter”) and Liz Friedman ("Elementary"), along with Jeph Loeb ("Marvel's Daredevil," “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”), who also serves as Marvel’s Head of Television.

Every Friday night in our home is family movie night where we watch something new together. It's a really nice tradition of pizza for dinner followed by whatever new family friendly movie we can find and some freshly popped organic popcorn. This past Friday we finally got the chance to watch Disney-Pixar's Inside Out for the first time. We have been wanting to watch this one since it released in theaters in June, so the boys were absolutely thrilled. And with a great cast of voices, as usual for Disney-Pixar, I was excited too!
Disney-Pixar's Inside Out is about 11 year old Riley and the emotions that are inside her head controlling her actions and reactions. It was defintely an interesting and fun take on human emotions that we got a kick out of. The most important test is the kid test and all four of my boys loved it. So much so that they watched it again on Saturday. And Sunday. And I'm sure they would watch it again today if they weren't in school. Their favorite character? Anger of course, because he generally screams and yells and is just plain funny. We also loved Bing Bong, Riley's imaginary friend, played by Richard Kind. He always does a fantastic job with his characters and has a great voice.
I too enjoyed the movie, though I do think it was different then the usual Disney-Pixar flick. Not in a bad way, mind you, it was just... different. I got a kick out of the way the feelings interacted with each other and how that played out for Riley in real time. Overall it was a great family movie and one I know they will continue to watch down the road.

One of the first things parents use on their newborn babies are baby wipes. But have you ever taken a moment to read the ingredients on your wipes before touching them to your baby's sensitive skin? It's not something that most people think about, I mean they're just wipes right? What could possible be on them that is bad? Sadly, many wipes are made with harsh ingredients and chemicals. Back when my kiddos were in diapers, my options were pretty limited in the natural wipes department. There was maybe one or two options out there and those just weren't affordable for us. So that is why I am such a huge supporter of WaterWipes chemical free baby wipes.
When I first tried WaterWipes earlier this year, they were only available at select Babies R Us stores. Sadly none of the stores within an hour of me carried it. But now they can be found at many Stop and Shop locations, which is wonderful for me since I am in that store at least once a week. So I was easily able to grab some while there doing my weekly grocery shopping. At my Stop and Shop here in Connecticut, WaterWipes were available in a 60 pack or a Value Pack which includes four 60 packs. To find WaterWipes near you, visit the WaterWipes Store Locator.
WaterWipes display at Stop and Shop.
Now even though my children (ages 5 to 10) are way past the diaper stage (thank goodness) that doesn't mean that baby wipes are no longer used at our house. Oh no, it is quite the opposite. Wipes are kept near the dining room table for quick clean up after snacks and meals and in each of the bathrooms so the boys can make sure they are nice and clean after doing their business. I even use baby wipes to clean up my dog after he goes for a walk. So see wipes are still widely used here and I love that WaterWipes contain only natural ingredients as I don't want chemicals anywhere near my family members (fury ones included).
A common assumption for natural personal care products and cleaning products is that the lack of chemicals means these product don't work as well as their unhealthy counterparts. In the case of WaterWipes as well as most natural products, that assumption is completely false. WaterWipes work just as well for us as our Kirkland wipes do. Halloween was just last weekend and do you know how messy four young boys tearing into chocolate can get? It has been unseasonably warm here and so they instantly had melted chocolate all over their hands and in their nails. Bleh. But WaterWipes took care of it quickly.
WaterWipes Value Pack
WaterWipes contain only two ingredients: 99.9% purified water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract. That's it. No long chemical names you can't pronounce, no preservatives and no alcohol. Ever try to clean the bum of a baby with diaper rash with a traditional wipe and they scream bloody murder? That's because most wipes contain some form of alcohol and that stuff burns. You don't have to worry about that alcohol burn with WaterWipes
It is also important to note that since there are no yucky preservatives in these wipes, they do have an expiration date. An unopened package will keep for about 15 months, the packs have an expiration date printed on them. It is recommended that an open pack be used up within a month. Since I don't know any parent that doesn't go through nearly a pack or two of wipes a week, I don't see that as ever being an issue.

I am a self proclaimed techie; I just love new technology and gadgets and all that fun kind of stuff. Something that has always intrigued me is "Connected Home" tech products, such as smart thermostats, wireless lightning or smart security systems. Up until now I've never had a chance to play with anything like that, but I recently got my hands on some Philip Hue Personal Wireless Lighting products and now I am in love.
Note: This is not my house.
When you are looking to add smart products into your home, the first thin you need to make sure you have is a wireless router capable of handling it all plus whatever devices you have. In our house we have a lot, and I do mean a lot, of devices that are running at any given time and we were probably pushing it with our old Netgear router. To say the Netgear Nighthawk DST Wireless Router (exclusive to Best Buy) is a monster is not an exaggeration. It is literally enormous but that just goes to show how powerful it is. But do not let the size intimidate you, the installation was very easy for this moderately tech savvy lady. Start to finish it took me just under and hour, and that was with a call to my internet service provider to find out what my PIN number was. Without that call, I would have been done in 45 minutes or less. But if this kind of stuff is a challenge for you, not to worry, the Nighthawk includes Geek Squad installation and one year of support (via phone or web)!
Netgear Nighthawk DST Features
• AC1900 high-performance WiFi router with Dead Spot Terminator eliminates your WiFi dead zones
• 1GHz dual core processor
• Supports 10+ connected devices
• Advanced features for lag-free gaming
• Prioritized bandwidth for streaming videos or music

Philips hue White and Ambiance Starter Kit
This kit includes 3 wireless LED A19 bulbs, a wireless bridge, AC power adapter and ethernet network cable to get you started. Once again setup and installation is easy and only took a few moments. You will also need to download the FREE Philips hue app to your mobile device to b able to control your lighting settings. (Download on iTunes.) There are so many features I love about this but the most important functionality wise is the ability to program your lights. This means you can set up a schedule that will have your lights turning on and off when you want so that it looks like your home when you are not. There is also an alarm function so you can have yourself wake up to soft light instead of a blaring alarm clock. I've been using that a lot and it has been wonderful.
Then there is just the cool aspect of being able to change the color of the lights to pretty much anything. The app comes with a few "scenes" already loaded into to use and you can also create countless scenes of your own. I placed two of the bulbs in our bedroom and one in the home office with the hue Go and I already can't wait to get the rest of the house connected! The reading scene I use a ton when working at my desk or reading in bed.
Key Features
• Choose from 16 million colors
• Create and save your favorite lighting scenes. Dimming and brightening features at your fingertips
• Easily adjust the light output. White and color light that fits your needs
• The 2700K temperature offers soft illumination.
• Designed to provide longer, more energy-efficient illumination.
• Mobile control from your smartphone or tablet

• Installs easily into your existing A19 light fittings
• Works with Apple HomeKit (iOS users) so you can control your lights with Siri voice control on your iPhone.
• hue is OpenHome certified and PEQ-compatible, so you can create your own ecosystem of automated devices.
• $199.99
Philips hue Go
This little portable light has quickly become my new best friend. I am a big time reader and my Kindle comes with me wherever I go. Now when I'm home, you can pretty much find me reading anywhere: living room couch, kitchen table, in bed or on my reading chair in the office. I love having this light available to bring in any room with me and I can soften the color and brightness to suit me. The hue Go is also controlled by the mobile app and can be set up to coincide with the other lights or on its own.
hue Go Key Features
• Portable, completely wire free smart light that offers a lot of versatility for any lighting need.
• Take it or put it anywhere: plug it in or carry it with you with up to 3 hours of rechargeable battery life.
• Control your way - with the on/off switch on the light, or via the hue app (hue bridge required).
• hue Go helps you to wake up fresh and energized in the morning with deep dimming. The gradually increasing light intensity gives you the feeling you are waking up from sunrise - gently and naturally.
• Offers 5 patented “natural dynamic effects”: Cozy Candle, Sunday Coffee, Meditation, Enchanted Forest, and Night Adventure. Each dynamic effect has its own mix of colors to set the right mood.
• $99.99
So overall I am more than pleased with all this new techie stuff that I've added to our home. Not only did I have a lot of fun setting it all up, but they provide great functionality as well. I'm hoping I can expand my hue lighting into more rooms over time.

I am a Netflix Stream Team member and have been given a Netflix membership to help facilitate my posts. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
One of the biggest things I love about Netflix is the ability to catch up on a show whenever it fits on my schedule. We are always running around to various sports events, school activities, etc. so it can be hard to watch a show when it originally airs on network television. So I often find myself more than a few episodes behind schedule. OK fine, more like entire seasons behind. I have a few shows on my shelfie that I plan to get started on this month.
shelf•ie (shelf-y) n. 1. the shows you’ve been wanting to watch but they’ve been sitting on the virtual shelf because you haven't had the time.
Marianna's Shelfie
Once Upon A Time, Season 4 - Although I was caught up at this time last year, I only saw a handful of the season 4 episodes. So I need some serious binge time to get caught up and not fall too far behind with season 5, which premiered last week on ABC.
Arrow, Season 3 - This will be arriving on Netflix on October 7 and I cannot wait! I have literally been waiting a year for this and it might be my number one priority. There will be some super late nights for me starting in about a week.
The Blacklist, Seasons 1 & 2 - OK so I caught one episode of this show last year and it intrigued me, so I added it to my shelfie to start someday. I'll need to get through the above two first before I start from the beginning on this one.
So those are the top three shows on my shelfie list, which are on yours?

When you are looking for easy, healthy snacks for your kids (aren't we always?), you needn't look further than Grapes from Mexico, which make a tasty treat for the whole family. That little grape is packed with antioxidants while being low on calories. We are fond of both green and red here in our house and you will find anyone of us snacking on them throughout the day. In the summer, I like to toss a big handful of red grapes in a ziploc bag in the freezer for a frozen treat. It helps keep me cool as well as keeping my away from the ice cream.
